Broncos Place Fifth, Tenth at Santa Clara Bronco Invitational

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - The Boise State cross country team participated in their third meet of the 2010 season this Saturday (Oct. 16), racing at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational at Baylands Regional Park. The Bronco men placed fifth in the Men's Invitational 8-kilometer race, while the women placed 10th in the Women's Invitational 5-kilometer race. Both races had a total of 19 teams.

The Bronco men totaled 137 team points with sophomore Jeff Howard leading the way with a second-place finish. Howard ran a time of 23:54.40 to finish as runner-up out of 173 competitors. Freshmen Drew O'donoghue-McDonald raced to a 16th place finish in a time of 24:26.70, while Allan Schroder was third for the Broncos and 32nd overall with a time of 24:44.00. Senior Scott Foley placed 40th with a time of 24:51.00, while junior Brian Pierre rounded out the scoring Broncos with a 47th-place finish (24:59.10). Seniors Brad Bogdan raced to a 59th-place finish (25:07.50) and Kevin Higgs placed 84th (25:54.50) to round out the competing Broncos in the meet.

For the women, freshman Emma Bates led the 232 total team-points effort with an eighth-place finish. Bates clocked a time of 17:23.30 to finish as the top freshman in a 163 competitor race. Freshmen Tessa Murray placed 21st (17:40.80), while Sarah Bisterfeldt placed 61st (18:15.50) to finish as the Broncos' number two and three runners. Senior Carly Gerard crossed the line in 70th-place (18:26.60), while Lauren Lucas placed 72nd (18:27.90) to round out the Broncos' scorers. The overall team title on the men's side went to Lamar who totaled 51 team points. Chico State placed second (62), while UC Davis rounded out the top-three men's teams with 113 points. UC Davis' Jon Peterson (junior) won the overall men's title, clocking a time of 23:45.10 over the 8-kilometer course.

For the women, Long Beach State won the team title with 60-points, while Idaho State placed second (151) and Sacramento State came in third (163). Fresno State was the only Western Athletic Conference team to finish ahead of the Broncos, placing sixth with 212 total points. Pepperdine junior Lauren Lodge won the women's race, clocking a time of 16:50.40 over the 5-kilometer course.

The Broncos have only one more meet on their 2010 regular season schedule, the College of Idaho Invitational on Thurs., Oct. 21 in Caldwell, Idaho. The Broncos' top runners will then continue to post-season competition at the WAC Championships in Moscow, Idaho, on Sat., Oct. 30.
