Broncos Head to Coyote Twilight

► What's Happening - The Boise State cross country team takes to the course again this Friday, Oct. 7, racing at the College of Idaho Coyote Twilight. The Broncos will race with their second-team runners at the final local meet of the Broncos' 2011 schedule.

Coyote Invite Meet Specifics - Held at the College of Idaho Campus Golf Course, the meet is slated for a 5 p.m. start time. The meet consists of a 5-kilometer race for the women and 8-kilometer race for the men.

Racing for the Broncos - Racing for the women will be: Sarah Bisterfeldt, Jamie Knapp, Lauren Lucas, Rici Morrill, Marissa Opatz, Anna Preciado, Mattie Stanford and Cara Strodel. The men's team will include: Aaron Back, Andrew Booth, Greg Marschik, Sean McDonald, Joe McFadden and Kyle Merritt.

Earning Honors - Freshman Vince Hamilton was named Mountain West Athlete of the Week, Sept. 27 after leading the Broncos at the Roy Griak Invitational. It was Hamilton's first career honor.  

A Look at the Rankings - Only the Bronco men have been ranked in the USTFCCCA West Region Rankings this season. They began the 2011 schedule with a No. 9 preseason ranking, followed by a No. 11 spot in week one. In week two they dropped to No. 15 in the region, but bounced back to No. 13 a week later. This week they remain at No. 13 despite not competing this past weekend.

Last Time Out - The Broncos' top runners traveled to St. Paul, Minn., to race at the Roy Griak Invitational where both the men and women placed 17th overall. Vince Hamilton led the men, while Marisa VanderMalle led the women, each placing 42nd. The majority of the Broncos stayed home and raced at the Bob Firman Invitational. There the women won the team title, while the men placed second. Hayley Gregoire led the women with her fourth-place finish, while Kyle Merritt led the men, placing seventh.

About the Broncos - The Broncos boast 13 men and 35 women on the 2011 roster, 11 freshmen are added to both the men's and women's rosters. A young team, the men have two sophomores and 11 freshmen on the roster, while the women have one senior, four juniors, 19 sophomores and 11 freshmen.
