Ostrander Named Athlete of the Week
Oct. 2, 2017

BOISE, Idaho – Redshirt sophomore Allie Ostrander of the Bronco cross country team was voted the Boise State Athlete of the Week (Sept. 25 – Oct. 1) by Bronco fans Monday.

Ostrander claimed the individual title at the Greater Louisville Classic this past weekend with a time of 16:28.15 on the 5-kilometer course. The first-place performance also buoyed the Broncos to the No. 1 spot in the team standings, as well, finishing with 74 points.

The title is Ostrander’s fifth career cross country victory.

The manner in which she won the race was indicative of the toughness that Bronco fans have grown to love from the Kenai, Alaska native. Ostrander was spiked at the start of the race from behind, causing her right shoe to detach from her heel.

She went on to run the next three kilometers with her shoe hanging off the front of her foot, and went on to flip the shoe off at the 3k mark, finishing the remaining two kilometers without a right shoe.

Despite the adversity, Ostrander willed herself to victory and defeated two 2016 All-America honorees who were also competing in the field.

The race was the first cross country meet for the redshirt sophomore since the 2015 NCAA Cross Country National Championships. Ostrander has since competed in the 2017 outdoor track and field season where she captured the 2017 NCAA 3,000m Steeplechase Championship and was named the Mountain Female Athlete of the Year.
