Bates named MW Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--Boise State's Emma Bates was named Mountain West Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday, for meets contested Sept. 13-20.

Bates, the nine-time All American, earned her second weekly honor of the season after her sixth-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 27. The Elk River, Minn., native finished the six-kilometer course in 21:02.5. Bates' sixth-place finish marked the best finish for a Bronco at the Griak Invitational in school history.

Paced by Bates, the Bronco women claimed four runners in the top-60 of the invitational. The women garnered 185 points for fourth place, marking the best finish for the Broncos at the Griak Invite in school history. Their performance helped the Broncos achieve a No. 17 national ranking, the highest mark in school history.

This is the fourth MW Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor for Bates.

Up next for the Broncos is the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, Oct. 17.
