Cross Country Head to Oregon for Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational

► What's Happening - The Boise State cross country team will leave the Treasure Valley for the first time this season, heading to the 35th Annual Charles Bowles Invitational Cross Country meet in Salem, Ore. The meet, hosted by Willamette University, will be held at Bush Park and McCulloch Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 3 with the Men's Cardinal 8-kilometer race kicking the day off with a 9:30 a.m. (PT) start.

► Meet Specifics - The Charles Bowles Invite is divided into four races, the men's and women's Cardinal races and the men's and women's Gold races. The Cardinal races include teams that are NCAA Division I, Division II or Division III members. The Gold races are for the NAIA, junior college and club teams as well as unattached runners.

The meet schedule is as follows (Pacific Time):
9:30 a.m. - Men's Cardinal 8-kilometer
10:15 a.m. - Women's Cardinal 5-kilometer
10:50 a.m. - Men's Gold 8-kilometer
11:35 a.m. - Women's Gold 5-kilometer

► A Look Back - With two meets under their belts, the Bronco men have two team titles to boast from the Roger Curran Invite and Bob Firman Invite as well as one individual win for Kevin Higgs at the Roger Curran Invite. On the women's side the team has claimed a second and third place finish as well as Shannon Porter capturing the title at the Roger Curran Invite and placing second at the Bob Firman Invite.

Looking at Boise State...
► In General -
The Broncos are prepping for their third of five regular season meets this season. The team also has a guaranteed trip to the WAC Championships in Reno, Nev., and could potentially go on to compete in the NCAA West Region Championships as well as the NCAA National Championships.

► Athletes of the Week- Shannon Porter and Sawyer Bosch were named the WAC Athletes of the Week for men's and women's cross country last week (Sept. 28) after placing second and third, respectively, at the Bob Firman Invite. This is the second career award for Porter, a freshman, and Bosch's first award of the 2009 season.

The Broncos will face a handful of competitors this weekend from the NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III levels. Teams included in the meet are: Augustana (S.D.), Boise State, Chico State, George Fox, Idaho, Lewis & Clark, Linfield, Nebraska Wesleyan, Northwest Nazarene, Notre Dame de Namur, Pacific Lutheran, Portland, Portland State, Puget Sound, San Jose State, Seattle Pacific, St. John's (Minn.), St. Olaf, St. Thomas (Minn.), Western Oregon, Whitman, Whitworth and the host team, Willamette.
