Bronco Cross Country Places First, Third at Bob Firman Invitational

EAGLE, Idaho - In their second meet of the season, the Boise State cross country team produced solid results at the 2009 Bob Firman Invitational on Saturday morning. The men's team was able to capture the team title, while the women placed third overall at Eagle Island State Park.

On the men's side, the Broncos' top-five scoring runners ran nearly the entire 8-kilometer race as a team pack, helping to produce an outstanding team score of 25 points for the team title. The Bronco men's top finisher was junior Sawyer Bosch who placed third overall in a time of 25 minutes, 44.72 seconds. Finishing at nearly the same time, junior Scott Foley was able to capture a fourth-place finish with a time of 25 minutes, 44.86 seconds, while junior Kevin Higgs placed fifth in a time of 25 minutes, 44.97 seconds.

The final two scoring runner for the Broncos finished just seconds later with freshman Jeff Howard placing sixth in a time of 25 minutes, 45.23 seconds and freshman Kevin Rosaaen crossing the line in seventh-place and clocking a time of 25 minutes, 46.76 seconds.

Idaho State's John Ricardi was the men's race winner, covering the 8-kilometer course in a time of 25 minutes, 25.16 seconds. The Broncos were able to earn the men's collegiate team title with only 25 points, with Idaho State finishing in second with 59 points. The College of Idaho placed third with 70 points while Northwest Nazarene placed fourth with 100 points and Central Washington placed fifth with 139 points.

The Boise State women were led for the second straight meet by freshman Shannon Porter who earned a second-place finish covering the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 5.47 seconds. Bronco junior Carly Gerard was the next Boise State finisher, placing 22nd in a time of 19 minutes, 9.47 seconds, while junior Alexandria Bell took 32nd-place in a time of 19 minutes, 32.55 seconds. Also scoring for the Bronco women were freshman Piper Delaney who placed 34th (19:38.10) and sophomore Melody Braden who took 35th (19:39.59).

Brigham Young University's Katy Andrews earned the women's individual title in a time of 17 minutes, 59.34 seconds, while the BYU women were able to capture the team title scoring 28 points. Idaho State placed second on the women's side with a team score of 44 points. The Broncos took third-place as a team with 86 points, while Northwest Nazarene took fourth-place with 100 points. Utah placed fifth with 101 points and Central Washington earned 171 points to place sixth and round out the team scoring.
