XC Gains Preseason Rankings
Sept. 20, 2017

BOISE, Idaho – While still awaiting the team’s Sept. 30 opener at the Greater Louisville Classic, the Boise State men’s and women’s cross country teams continue to gain preseason hype.

At the conclusion of the FloTrack XC Countdown, both Bronco teams and three individuals enter the season ranked in the top 25 nationally.

MEN: FloTrack ranked the men No. 13 nationally, while senior Yusuke Uchikoshi enters the season as the 14th ranked individual.

The men captured the Mountain West title and finished 19th at nationals in 2016. All seven members from the squad that ran at the national championship return, as does redshirt junior Addison Dehaven after a redshirt season in 2016.

Also returning on the men’s side will be first-team All-Mountain West runner Michael Vennard, and second-team All-Mountain West runners Miler Haller and Rhys Park.

The men are looking to qualify for nationals as a team for the third straight season.

Uchikoshi looks to build off of a strong debut year in the Blue and Orange. As a junior, he won the Mountain West individual title, was named All-West Region and finished the year with an All-American honor after taking 18th at the national championships.

WOMEN: The women enter the season ranked No. 14, while two individuals landed in the preseason top 10.

Following a dominant 2016 season as a sophomore, two-time cross country All-American Brenna Peloquin was ranked ninth by FloTrack in their preseason countdown.

Joining Peloquin in the preseason top 10 is Allie Ostrander in second. Ostrander returns after a redshirt season in 2016, but is coming off a NCAA-title in the 3,000 meter steeplechase this past spring as she looks to improve on her runner-up finish at the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

The Boise State women are looking to qualify for the national championship for the second-time in three years. Back for the women alongside Peloquin and Ostrander is 2016 Mountain West Women’s Freshman of the Year, Clare O’Brien.

Minttu Hukka, Anna McDonald, Alexis Fuller and Gracie Tostenson from the 2015 squad that ran at nationals all remain on the roster.

Both teams were picked second in the Mountain West preseason poll, and the women were 19th in the USTFCCCA preseason rankings, while the men landed at 24th.
