SNOWDONIA, North Wales
– In her first race competing for Team USA, Allie Ostrander did as she has done so many times already in her young career and won the 2015 Junior World Mountain Running Championships in Snowdonia, North Wales. She becomes just the second junior in United States’ history to win the individual title at the Junior World Mountain Running Championships.

Ostrander finished the 4.7-kilometer course in 19:44, 39 seconds clear of the second-place finisher – Michaela Stranska (20:23) of the Czech Republic. France’s Elsa Racasan took third after crossing the finish line in 20:31.

Just as the freshman from Kenai, Alaska suspected, the first half of the race featured a steep incline, while the second half flattened out and eventually worked into a drastic downward angle. To give an idea of the change in elevation, Ostrander averaged a 9:40 mile in the first half of the race, and then improved to a 4:37 mile average in the second half to pull away from her competition.

Her fellow Team USA Teammates – Lily Tomasula Martin and Katie Bowe – finished in 30th (22:49) and 38th (24:29), respectively.
