Broncos to Split for Roy Griak, Bob Firman Invites

► What's Happening - The Boise State cross country teams will split squads this Saturday (Sept. 24), sending their top-seven runners for the men and women to the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., while the remainder of the team continues their schedule in the valley at the Bob Firman Invitational.

This weekend marks the second weekend of four regular season competitions for the Broncos. The Bob Firman is the second of three meets in the Treasure Valley, while the Roy Griak Invite is the first meet for outside of the valley.

Roy Griak Meet Specifics - The top-seven Broncos for the men's and women's squads will travel to St. Paul, Minn., to partake in the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota. The men will compete on an 8-kilometer course, while the women will cover a 5-kilometer course at the university's Les Bolstad Golf Course. The Bronco men will compete in the Merrill Fischbein Men's Gold (Division I) Competition, slated for an 11:20 a.m. (MT) start, while the women will race in the Jack Johnson Women's Gold (Division I) Competition held at 12:10 p.m. (MT).

Traveling to Minnesota for the women is: Emma Bates, Shea Hanson, Erin McLaughlin, Rici Morrill, Tessa Murray, Taryn Treadway and Marisa VanderMalle. The seven men making the trip include: David Elliott, Vince Hamilton, Jared Lehning, Drew O'donoghue-McDonald, Dakota Parker, John Robinson and Allan Schroeder.

Bob Firman Meet Specifics - The majority of the Bronco cross country team will stay in the valley, competing at the Bob Firman Invitational held at Eagle Island State Park. The men are scheduled to kick off the day, starting their 8-kilometer race at 8:50 a.m. (MT). The women will follow immediately after with their 5-kilometer race at 9:25 a.m. (MT).

A Look at the Rankings - Only the Bronco men have been ranked in the USTFCCCA West Region Rankings this season. They began the 2011 schedule with a No. 9 preseason ranking, followed by a No. 11 spot in week one. This week they drop to No. 15 in the region after not competing this past weekend.

Last Time Out - The Broncos opened their season at the Roger Curran Invitational on Sept. 10 with the women capturing the team title and the men placing second. Redshirt freshman Marisa VanderMalle led the women after winning the women's 4-kilometer race. Freshman Vince Hamilton led the men after placing second on the 6-kilometer course.

About the Broncos - The Broncos welcome 13 men and 35 women to the 2011 roster, 11 freshmen are added to both the men's and women's rosters. A young team, the men have two sophomores and 11 freshmen on the roster, while the women have one senior, four juniors, 19 sophomores and 11 freshmen.
