Ostrander to Compete for Team USA
Sept. 17, 2015

Boise State cross country's Allie Ostrander will represent the United States and compete at the 2015 Junior World Mountain Running Championships on Saturday, Sept. 19 in Snowdonia, North Wales.

Ostrander will be joined by two other athletes on the U.S. Junior Women's Team - Katie Bowe of Midlothian, Va., and Lily Tomasula Martin of Estes Park, Colo. The trio was selected by the U.S. Mountain Running Team based off of past accomplishments, letters of recommendation and mountain running experience. The juniors' selection also depended on them being between the ages of 16 and 19.

"It's really exciting to have this opportunity," Ostrander said. "It hasn't really hit me yet. I've put on the gear to make sure it all fits, but I haven't gotten out on the course wearing the gear, and I think that's when it will really sink in."

Ostrander and the rest of the junior women's field will run a 4.8-kilometer race that will feature 250 meters of elevation gain in what will be a single loop course. There should be a steep uphill grade in the first half of the race, followed by a downhill grade in the latter half.

The countries in the junior women's race will score their top two runners to decide the team champion and there will also be an individual champion crowned at the end of the day.

"I've never really traveled outside out of the country, so it will be interesting to see how I can adjust, but my mileage will be lower this week so it will give me more time to rest and recover from the time change. I've also been talking to people about tips and ways to help out with the time change."
