Broncos Higgs, Porter Garner WAC Cross Country Athletes of the Week Honors

DENVER - Boise State's Kevin Higgs and Shannon Porter have been named the Western Athletic Conference men and women's Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Sept. 7-13.

Higgs, a junior from Nampa, Idaho (Nampa HS), crossed the line in first place to help the Broncos to the team title at the Roger Curran Invitational in Nampa, Idaho last week. Higgs took the top spot in a field of 71 runners in the 6-kilometer with a time of 18 minutes, 41.23 seconds. The first-place finish was the first title of Higgs' career at Boise State.

Porter, a freshman from Hockinson, Wash. (Hockinson HS), won the women's individual title at the Roger Curran Invitational last week. Porter broke the tape with a 4-kilometer time of 14:19.20, finishing ahead of 48 other runners.

Other Men's Nominees: Erick Garcia, Fresno State; Ryan Fenton, New Mexico State.

Other Women's Nominees: Roxanne Sellick, Fresno State; Courtney Schultz, New Mexico State.
