What’s Happening - The Boise State University men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Portland, Ore., to compete in the 2007 West Coast Preview, Sept. 14.

“This team has heart and guts,” graduate assistant track and field interim coach Tom Shanahan said. “Last week I was very impressed how we did; now I want to see that we can put it back-to-back.”

The Broncos - Last Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Northwest Nazarene Hampton Inn and Suites Classic at Nampa, Idaho, Boise State recorded a clean sweep by collecting both team titles along with the men’s and women’s individual titles.

The women’s team registered 24 points as it placed five runners in the top 8 and seven in the top 10. Breanna Sande led the way as she posted a 14:13.6 on the 4,000-meter grass course.

Senior Cody Eaton led the men’s team to victory with 29 points as he recorded a first place finish on the 6,000-meter course with a 3:06.9. The men’s team placed four runners in the top 10 and all six Bronco runners finished in the top 20.

The Teams - The West Coast Preview will feature 10 teams from throughout the west including Boise State, Alaska-Anchorage, Clackamas CC, Gonzaga, Pepperdine, Portland State, Seattle University, Warner Pacific, Western Oregon, and host Portland.

The Athletes - Men

The men’s team returns only one upperclassman to the team that finished second at the 2006 Western Athletic Conference Championships. Senior and second-team All-WAC selection, Cody Eaton, leads a young squad that features a deep and talented group of runners.

Freshman Sawyer Bosch recorded a third place finish in his first collegiate competition with an 18:49.9 on the 6,000-meter course.

Fellow freshmen Kevin Higgs finished in fifth place with a 19:02.2 and Scott Foley finished ninth with a 19:22.8.

Eaton was also earned WAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his performance at the NNU Hampton Inn and Suites Classic.

The Athletes - Women

The women’s cross country team returns second-team All-WAC performers in juniors Kendra Hernandez and Breanna Sande. The two juniors combined with seniors Meadow Braden and Chaly Jones will be relied upon to guide the young women’s team through the rigors of the cross country season as the team prepares for the 2007 WAC Championships.

At the NNU Hampton Inn and Suites Classic, sophomore Hilary McClendon finished in fourth place on the 4,000-meter course with a 14:31.0, followed by senior Chaly Jones in fifth with a 14:56.2 and freshman Carly Gerard sixth with a 14:58.1.
