Bronco Men, Women Win Roger Curran Invitational

NAMPA, Idaho - The Boise State cross country teams kicked-off their 2010 season on Saturday (Sept. 11) at the Third Annual Roger Curran Invitational held at West Park in Nampa. The Broncos started the season out strong sweeping the men's and women's team titles, while also earning a 1-2 finish in the men's race and a second-place individual finish in the women's race.

The Bronco men earned 25 points, while College of Idaho came in second (51 points) and Northwest Nazarene placed third (68 points). For the women, the Broncos earned 34 points, while College of Idaho placed third (43 points) and Eastern Oregon placed third (74 points).

Bronco freshman Drew O'donoghue-McDonald led the 71-person men's race, winning the 6-kilometer course in a time of 18:15.49. Senior Sawyer Bosch came in just behind, placing second, in a time of 18:18.06. Senior transfer Brad Bogden was third for the Broncos and fifth overall in the race (18:30.50), while senior Scott Foley was fourth for the Broncos and seventh overall (18:37.36). Sophomore Jeff Howard was 10th overall (18:46.92), while Brian Pierre came in 12th (18:47.76). Junior Quinten Hennekam rounded out the Bronco competitors, placing 20th (19:15.31).

On the women's side, six of the top-seven Broncos were freshmen. Freshman Emma Bates led the Broncos, placing second overall and covering the 4-kilometer course in a time of 13:43.71. Fellow freshmen Marisa VanderMalle and Tessa Murray placed fifth and sixth clocking times of 14:00.55 and 14:03.22, respectively. Senior Carly Gerard had a solid meet, placing ninth (14:20.07), while freshman Lauren Lucas placed 16th (14:39.15). Freshmen Shannon Moskowitz and Alyssa Boucher rounded out the top-seven for Boise State, placing 18th (14:41.30) and 19th (14:41.69), respectively.

Eastern Oregon sophomore Karlee Coffey was the overall women's course champion, winning the 68-person race in a time of 13:36.29.

The Broncos continue their season in two weeks (Sept. 25) when they compete as a split squad in two meets. Some of the Broncos will travel to St. Paul, Minn., to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational, while the remaining Broncos will compete in the valley again, racing in the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park.
