Boise State Cross Country Opens Season at Roger Curran Invitational

What’s Happening The Boise State Cross Country team looks to open their season at the First Annual Roger Curran Invitational held at West Park in Nampa, Idaho. While festivities begin at 8:30 a.m., the Broncos will not begin competition until the women take the course at 12:45 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008.

About Northwest Nazarene - Making their highest debut to date, the Northwest Nazarene women’s cross country team is ranked fifth in the inaugural USTFCCCA NCAA Division II West Regional cross country polls of the 2008 season ... During the offseason, the Crusaders  added six recruits from the state of Idaho to their roster.

Coaches Corner...

Coach Wick on the Roger Curran Invitational We are looking forward to kick off our season at the Roger Curran Invite. We have been getting in some great training the past couple weeks and look to really work the last two kilometers of the race. We have our full squads racing this weekend which will make it fun to see how the freshmen stack up in their first collegiate race.”

About Coach Brad Wick - Wick joins the Broncos after serving as a volunteer assistant coach for the men’s cross country and distance track team at the University of Minnesota for three years. While working with the Gophers, he assisted in coaching five cross country All-Americans and an eighth place team finish at the 2007 NCAA Cross Country Championships. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Wick aided in recruiting, generating and facilitating workouts, managing travel and equipment purchases, team transportation and team strategizing.

Prior to his tenure at Minnesota, Wick worked as the head track and field coach for the Elk River Recreation Summer Track Program for six years in addition serving as a volunteer assistant for the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point from 2004-05.

Bronco Bullets...

         The Boise State men’s cross country team will look to junior Cameron Lockard to provide the Broncos with leadership as he is the only upperclassman on the team as 14 of the 15 man roster consists of freshmen and sophomores.

 

         On the women’s side, the Broncos welcome back the defending Breanne Sande, who was named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year after she captured the individual title at the WAC Cross Country Championships with a time of 17:01.32 on the 5,000-meter Historic American West Heritage Center in Logan, Utah, to win the race by 9.03 seconds.

Last Season in the WAC...

Men - The men’s cross country team finished third in the standings with 83 points and an average time of 24:38.08 ... Senior Cody Eaton paced the team with a 23:53.63 to finish sixth. Sawyer Bosch was on Eaton’s heels finishing with a 23:58.81 for a seventh place finish ... Kevin Higgs finished 14th with a 2:21.06, while Scott Foley posted a 25:04.42 to place 22nd, and Cameron Lockard finished with a 25:52.44 to round out the scoring for the men.

Women -  Breanna Sande of the Boise State University women’s cross country team was named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year after she captured the individual title at the WAC Cross Country Championships ... Sande posted a 17:01.32 on the 5,000-meter Historic American West Heritage Center in Logan, Utah, to win the race by 9.03 seconds ... The first place finish and one point collected by Sande helped lead the women’s team to a fourth place finish in the conference with 95 points and an average time of 17:44.87 ... Chaly Jones concluded her WAC cross country career by finishing 18th with a 17:42.42, for her fifth top 25 time this season ... Three other Broncos finished in the top 25 .... Hilary McClendon also earned her fifth top 25 performance as she recorded a 17:50.48 to finish 20th ... Carly Gerard registered a 17:50.94 for 21st place and Karleigh Gempler posted an 18:19.17 to round out the scoring for Boise State.
