Eaton Finishes Second, Hernandez Third At Cross Country Meet

RENO, Nev. Junior Cody Eaton and sophomore Kendra Hernandez led the way for the Broncos in their season opening cross country race, Saturday, at Bartley Ranch Regional Park.

Eaton was the top finisher for the Bronco men, finishing second with a four-mile time of 22-minutes, 35 seconds. He finished only five seconds back of winner Dominic Vogl of Sacramento State.

Senior Wijnand Rijkenberg (22:36) and junior Brandon Christoffersen (22:42) came in right behind Eaton, finishing third and fourth, respectively. Although the Bronco men had three of the top four finishers, they were unable to hold off Sacramento State, who ultimately won 27-30.

On the women’s side, Hernandez led the Broncos with a third place finish, running the 4,000-meter course in 15:31, 37-seconds behind top-finisher Amanda Moreno of host-school Nevada.

Also finishing in the top 10 was junior Meadow Braden, who finished 10th at 16:18. The Bronco women knocked off Sacramento State, 24-32, but were downed by Nevada (23-34) and Utah (21-36).

The Broncos continue their season Sept. 9, at the NNU Invitational in Nampa, Idaho.
