Broncos Picked Second, Third In MW Preseason Rankings

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State women's and men's cross country teams were selected as the No. 2 and No. 3 picks, respectively, in the 2012 Mountain West Preseason Cross Country Coaches' Polls released Monday (Aug. 27).

The Bronco women, who finished third at the 2011 MW Championships, earned 54-points and one first-place vote in this year's poll, sitting just behind New Mexico (63-points, seven first-place votes) and ahead of Colorado State (48-points, one first-place vote).

Boise State's men, who placed fourth at the 2011 MW Championships, collected 17-points and one first-place vote in a tight top-three led by New Mexico (24-points, four first-place votes). Air Force came in second with 21-points and one first-place vote.

Also released on Monday were the 2012 Division I U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason Regional rankings which Boise State's cross country programs were each ranked No. 11 in the West Region.

The Bronco women rank 11 th after ending the 2011 season at No. 12, while the men sit at 11 headed into the season after finishing at No. 14 last year. Oregon's women and Portland's men top the USTFCCCA West Region's Preseason Rankings.

The USTFCCCA recognizes the top-15 Division I teams in each of their nine regions across the country in their rankings.

The 2012 national preseason coaches' poll will be released on Tuesday, Aug. 28.

The Boise State cross country teams will begin their 2012 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the fifth annual Roger Curran Invitational held in Nampa's West Park. The men will race an 8-kilometer course, while the women will run a 4-kilometer course, slated to begin at 12:45 p.m.
