BOISE, Idaho--
Emma Bates, Andrew Rafla, Michael Vennard and soon-to-be-Bronco Elijah Armstrong will represent their home nations at the 2015 Great Edinburgh XCountry meet at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh, Scotland on Saturday, Jan. 10.

Emma Bates, a ten-time All American for Boise State, will race in the Senior Women’s 6K competition. Bates will don the USA jersey with eight other women competing for the win. As she has exhausted her indoor track & field eligibility, Bates will help to contend for the team title on Saturday. The Elk River, Minn., native is the lone collegian in the women’s race. The Senior Women’s race will begin at 7 a.m. (MT).

Two Broncos will run in the Junior Men’s 4K competition. Freshman Andrew Rafla, the reigning Mountain West Men’s Freshman of the Year honoree, was selected to the six-man-roster Juniors team. Recent Bronco signee Elijah Armstrong will also compete in the Junior Men’s race. Armstrong is one of four competitors on the USA Junior Men’s squad yet to matriculate into college. To compete in the Juniors race, runners must be at least 16-years-old and no older than 20. The Junior Men’s race will begin at 5 a.m. (MT).

Freshman Michael Vennard will also race on Saturday. Vennard will battle in Men’s Short Race Invitational Elite 4K (6 a.m. MT). The Bronco will race for Great Britain in a field of 19 elite runners.

The 26th edition of the Great Edinburgh XCountry has featured some of the world’s best athletes since 1988. The competition pits the United States against Britain and Europe. Four races will contribute to the team score: Senior Men (8 K, nine-athlete team); Senior Women (6K, nine-athlete team); Junior Men (6K, six-athlete team); and Junior Men (4K, six-athlete team). The winning nation will be determined by combining the senior and junior races for a final team score. Great Britain won the 2014 team title (159 points), followed by Europe (172) and then USA (203).
