Madison, Wis.- The Boise State men’s and women’s cross country teams had a solid showing in their final regular-season meet of the year on Friday. The Bronco women finished 17th with 480 points, and the men placed 22nd (534 points) in an elite field at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course.

The men’s 8-kilometer race featured 19 nationally ranked teams in a field of 38, while the women’s 6-kilometer race featured 22 ranked teams in a field of 40.

Leading the women was redshirt senior Emma Bates who secured a sixth-place finish on the 6-kilometer course in a time of 19:47. Marisa Howard was the second Bronco to cross the line, placing 20th in 20:21. Sarah Hastings finished 117th in 21:23, followed by Emma Hyyppä (156th, 21:41) and Gracie Tostenson (198th, 22:03).

Senior David Elliott led the Broncos on the men’s side, placing 26th on the 8-kilometer course in a time of 24:10. Freshman Michael Vennard was the second Bronco to cross the line, placing 88th (24:33). Fellow freshman Andrew Rafla followed, placing 104th (24:39). Jack Curran (25:04) and Dan Oekerman (25:06) rounded out the scoring Broncos, finishing 163rd and 167th, respectively.

The Broncos will train for a week before the 2014 Mountain West Championships on Friday, Oct. 31 at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif.
