Women's Team Excels at Nutty Invite

Entering the race as the seventh-highest ranked team in the field, the No. 13 Boise State women’s cross country team excelled with a fourth-place (233 points) finish at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational, Friday.

Allie Ostrander led the Broncos in ninth place, moving through the field in the latter stages of the race. Ostrander was in 26th at the 2-kilometer mark, but finished strong to extend her streak of top 10 cross country finishes to eight. Ostrander has never finished outside of the top 10 in her collegiate cross country career.

The redshirt sophomore traversed the 6-kilometer Thomas Zimmer Championship course in 20:00.2.

Pack running propelled Boise State to finish above 11 ranked teams – the five scorers finished within a 56-second spread.

Minttu Hukka (20:33.4) finished in 40th-place, while Clare O’Brien, Emily Venters and Alexis Fuller finished within the same six seconds to round out the top five for Boise State.

No. 3 New Mexico won the women’s title (87 points), while the Lobos’ Ednah Kurgat won as an individual (19:23.1).

The No. 15 Boise State men battled to a 21st-place showing (563 points) in the Men’s Championship race.

Redshirt sophomore Miler Haller led the team in 63rd-place, running 24:27.3 over the 8-kilometer course. True freshman Ahmed Muhumed was next for the Broncos in 83rd.

No. 1 Northern Arizona won handily won the team title (50 points), while Syracuse’s Justyn Knight defended his individual title (23:38.9).

In the women’s B-race, Kyra Lopez and Anna McDonald finished in the top 5 to lead the Broncos to a third-placing showing as a team.

A second contingent of Broncos will race Saturday, at the Inland Empire Challenge in Lewiston, Idaho. Next up for Boise State will be the Mountain West Championships, Oct. 27, in Albuquerque, N.M.
