Vaisima Named MW Athlete of the Week

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State redshirt senior Mele Vaisima has been named Mountain West Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week. This is her first MW honor.

Hailing from Woods Cross, Utah, Vaisima earned a first-place finish in the women's weight throw at the Jacksons Open in Nampa, Idaho on Dec. 3. Vaisima posted a career-best toss of 64'-7.00" (19.68m) to win the event. Her throw ranks as the third-best weight throw in Mountain West history and second-best in Boise State history, while also setting a personal record by over two feet.

Air Force junior Rob Simmons has been selected as the Mountain West men's indoor track & field athlete of the week after finishing first among college competitors (second overall) in the men's pole vault at the Blue & Silver Open in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Dec. 9. He recorded a personal-best mark of 17'8.50" (5.40m), tying for the highest clearance of the meet. Simmons' mark ranks first the Mountain West and NCAA in 2011, and is the third-best height clearance in program history.
