WARDHAUGH AND OLIVETTI NAMED WAC TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

            BOISE, Idaho Competing in the first track and field meet of the 2008-09 indoor season, Boise State University’s Simon Wardhaugh and Megan Olivetti have both earned WAC Athlete of the Week honors.

            A senior from Bracken Ridge, Australia (University of Queensland), Wardhaugh won the 35-pound weight throw at the Jacksons Open in Nampa, Idaho with a throw of 73-00.0 (22.25 meters).  The mark set a new Boise State record previously held by Mattias Jons (72-4.50).  The throw also stands as an automatic qualifying mark to the NCAA National Indoor Championships.

            Olivetti, a senior from Reno, Nev., won her first pentathlon with 3,386 points at the Jacksons Open.  Of the five events, she won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.74 and the high jump with a 5-3 mark.  She also placed second in the long jump with a mark of 17-1.50.

            The Boise State track and field teams are now off from competition until Jan. 24 (Saturday) when they host the Blue and Orange Invitational at the Jacksons Track.
