Boise State University to Host 2012 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships

BOISE, Idaho - The NCAA announced today (Nov. 2) that Boise State University will host the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's National Indoor Track and Field Championships.  The two-day (March 9-10) event will be held in Nampa, Idaho at the Jackson Track at the Idaho Center, home to the Bronco track and field teams.

"It is a great honor to host the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships," stated Boise State head track and field coach, J.W. Hardy. "The Jackson Track is a wonderful facility and we look forward to it being showcased on the national stage."

Hosting championships is nothing new to Boise State, having held a long line of major NCAA national events in many different sports.  Although, this will be the first indoor track and field championship hosted by Boise State.  The most recent event hosted in Boise was the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball First and Second Rounds.

Boise State is also no stranger in hosting national track and field event.  In 1994 and 1999, Bronco Stadium played host to the NCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

In all, Boise State has 16 NCAA national championship events - two outdoor track and field championships, one national and two regional championships in gymnastics, eight first and second rounds in men's basketball, two regionals in men's tennis and one regional in women's basketball.

"We are excited to take the championship somewhere new, with Boise State as a host in 2012," said Holly Sheilley, chair of the Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee and assistant athletic director for student development and championships at the University of Louisville. "(The Jackson Track) has a good reputation as a premier track venue and has the ability to draw good crowds, which makes it an ideal selection to host the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships as well as helping to continue to foster the sport's growth."

The 2009 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships will be hosted by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., March 12-13.  The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee also announced that Texas A&M in College Station, Texas has been awarded the 2011 championships.
