Broncos Collect Food for Barber to Boise, Idaho Food Bank

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State track and field teams have been busy in the community this fall, lending a hand with the 34th annual Barber to Boise 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer walk and run. The race is slated for Sat., Oct. 16 with a 9:30 a.m. start for the 10-kilometer race and a 9:50 a.m. start for the 5-kilometer distance. The race will finish inside Boise State's Bronco Stadium.

The race helps to support the Idaho Food Bank and the Boise State track and field programs. The Broncos are doing their part in the event by helping to raise funds, as well as collecting food donations through the event for the Idaho Food Bank.

Senior throwers Mele Vaisima and Nadine Russell, along with junior Alyssa Osai headed up the Broncos' efforts and arranged a canned food drive for the event. The Bronco track and field team has spent two weekends at the local Albertsons store collecting nearly 1,800-pounds of food to benefit the Idaho Food Bank.

Not only did the Broncos aid in collecting food, but they will be a part of the race festivities by serving the Barber to Boise race competitors a pancake breakfast at the end of the race.

All food collected will go to the Idaho Food Bank, while the Boise State track and field team will receive a portion of the funds raised from the race.
