Broncos Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Honorees

BOISE, Idaho  - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named four Boise State track and field student-athletes as 2012 USTFCCCA Division I Track & Field All-Academic honorees this week. Debra Johnson, Will Lohman Justin Malnes and Eetu Viitala were named as Bronco honorees for the 2011-12 indoor and outdoor seasons. In addition to the individual awards, the Bronco women's track and field program earned a 2012 USTFCCCA Division I All-Academic Track and & Field Team nod for their excellence in the classroom.

Johnson was among 676 female student-athletes nationwide to earn the award, as well as one of 17 league honorees from the 2011-12 Mountain West teams. Lohman, Malnes and Viitala were three of 432 male student-athletes to earn the honor, as well as three of seven league honorees.

The Bronco women's track and field program earned a 3.15 grade point average (GPA), placing it among 171 women's teams to earn a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honor. The Broncos were joined by Wyoming (3.25), Colorado State (3.14), TCU (3.14) and UNLV (3.05) as women's teams honored from the Mountain West.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field honoree, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a program must post a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better.
