Boise State track and field rising sophomore Allie Ostrander will compete in the 5,000m at the United States Olympic Team Trials this week in Eugene, Ore., at Hayward Field. The first round will take place on Thursday, July 7 at 4:20 p.m. (PT), and the final will take place on Sunday, July 10 at 4:28 p.m. (PT).

The field of 24 competitors will be split into two heats of 12. The top six fastest times from each heat along with the next four fastest times overall will advance to the final on Sunday.

Ostrander has the 12th-fastest qualifying time in the field entering the week. Her 15:21.85 came at the UW Invitational in late January at the Dempsey Indoor Track in Seattle, Wash. The time shattered both the school and Mountain West records.

The Kenai, Alaska native will be the only collegian competing in the 5K. There were only two collegians that competed in the 5,000m at the trials in 2012 – Stanford’s Kathy Kroeger and Georgetown’s Emily Infeld.

Molly Huddle, the fastest qualifier in the 5,000m field thanks to a time of 14:48.14, also won the 10K title earlier last week to punch her ticket to Rio.

Ostrander last competed in indoors where she enjoyed arguably the most successful indoor regular season for a Bronco track and field athlete in school history. After earning the conference record in the 5,000m in January, Ostrander went on to break the 3,000m conference record two weeks later at the Husky Classic when she clocked an 8:54.27.

Shortly after picking up both league records, Ostrander was named the USTFCCCA West Region Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Year and the Mountain West Indoor Women's Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year for her regular season performance. She also helped the distance medley relay team capture the conference title, anchoring the team in the 1,600m to a time of 11:16.41, good for the fastest time in school history.
