Former Bronco Jarred Rome Earns Spot on Olympic Team

EUGENE, Ore.  - Former Boise State track and field standout Jarred Rome earned a spot on the 2012 USA Olympic Track and Field Team Thursday evening (June 28) placing second in the discus throw at the 2012 USA Olympic Trials at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.

Rome, who competes for Nike, claimed the runner-up title with a toss of 207'-10" (63.35m). The 2000 Boise State graduate snagged his second trip to the Olympic Games, also competing in 2004 in the discus.

A six-time All-American at Boise State, Rome is joined by Lance Brooks (Nike) and Jason Young (Nike) as the 2012 USA Olympic men's discus team who will compete August 6-7 in London. Brooks won the trials competition on Thursday evening with a mark of 213'-9" (65.15m), while Young placed third with a throw of 203'-11" (62.15m).

Rome joins 2012 Boise State senior Kurt Felix as Bronco representatives at the 2012 Olympics in London. Felix will compete in the decathlon for his native country of Grenada.
