BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –
Leif Everson took third place in the men’s 5,000m at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships on the campus of Indiana University after crossing the line in 14:54.56.

Everson came in to the race seeded fourth among accepted entries with a 5,000m qualifying time, but was able to outperform his seeding and hang on to third, beating out the fourth-place finisher, Justin Hazell (14:55.21), by less than a second. He will be the first alternate for the United States at the 2018 IAAF World Championships (July 19-24) in Tampere, Finland in the case that the either of the top-two finishers can’t make the trip.

Kristie Schoffield also ran Friday at the E.C. “Billy” Hayes Track and competed in the first round of the women’s 800m. The Concord, N.H., native clocked a 2:12.36 to take 12th overall, leaving her on the outside looking in for advancing to the final tomorrow.

Today’s race marks the end of an exceptional outdoor season that saw Schoffield earn honorable mention All-America and All-Mountain West honors in the 800m. She ran a 2:05.18 at west preliminaries to put her No. 2 on the Boise State all-time performance list.

Emily Venters will represent the Blue and Orange and run tomorrow night in the women’s 5,000m at 6 p.m. MT.
