Grinnell Advances to Triple Jump Finals at the NCAA Championship

DES MOINES, Iowa - While Friday the 13th may be unlucky for some, it didn’t seem to affect the Boise State track and field team as Ryan Grinnell recorded a qualifying mark to advance to the triple jump finals at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, Friday.

The men’s triple jump showcased the talents of Zacharias Arnos and Grinnell. Leading the way for the duo was Grinnell as he leapt and impressive 52-06.00 (16m) to place second in his heat and third overall. Not to be overlooked was teammate Arnos, who recorded a best-mark of 51-03.75 (15.64m). Despite placing sixth in his flight, the sophomore missed the final cut as he placed 15th out of 22 competitors.

That evening, junior Eleni Kafourou took to the runway for the women’s triple jump where she competed in the second flight. On her first attempt of the competition, she jumped a best-mark of 40-07.75 (12.39m) to place 24th overall in the event.

Taking to the stage tomorrow will be Grinnell as he looks to make his presence known at the championship when he competes in the triple jump finals tomorrow, Saturday (June 14), at 1 p.m. (CT).
