Grinnell Takes Eleventh at NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championship

DES MOINES, Iowa - The stage was set for the Boise State track and field team during the second day of competition of the 2008 NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championship as Ryan Grinnell led the Broncos with an 11th place finish in the long jump finals, Thursday.

The junior from Idaho Falls, Idaho entered the long jump finals after placing eighth in the preliminaries with a mark of 5-7.25 (7.80m). While the competition was fierce, Grinnell appeared to be unaffected as he recorded a best-mark of 25-02.00 (7.67m) during his second jump of the competition.

During the first heat of the preliminaries for the women’s 100m hurdles, Megan Olivetti raced against some of the nations elite as she placed seventh in her heat after clocking a time of 13.66. To advance to the semifinals, the athlete must place in the top three of their given heat plus the next four best. Despite her efforts, the junior missed the mark to advance as she placed 20th in the field of 28 competitors.

Despite missing her chance to compete in the long jump finals, junior Eleni Kafourou will have a second opportunity to make her mark at nationals on Friday (June 13) when she competes in the preliminaries of the triple jump at 7:00 p.m. (CT).

Also competing on Friday for the Broncos will be Grinnell and Zacharias Arnos in the men’s triple jump preliminaries at 4:15 p.m. (CT).
