Seven Broncos Named to USTFCCCA All-West Region Team

BOISE, Idaho - Seven members of the Boise State track and field team were named to the 2008 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Outdoor Track and Field All-West Region Team after posting top marks at the 2008 NCAA West Regional Championships, Saturday, May 31.

The following athletes were named to the All-West Region Team:

Zacharias Arnos, Sophomore, Nicosia, Greece. - Registered a season-best 52-3.25 (15.93m) in the triple jump to finish third.

Savvas Diakonikolas, Junior, Rhodes, Greece - Finished third in the men’s long jump with a leap of 25-02.00 (7.67m) in addition to placing 10th in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 48-8.25 (14.48m).

Ryan Grinnell, Junior, Idaho Falls, Idaho - Won the men’s triple jump with a leap of 52-6.50 (16.01m) before placing seventh in the long jump with a measure of 24-5.75 (7.46m).

Megan Olivetti, Junior, Reno, Nev. - Topped her own school-record in the women’s 100m hurdles for the second consecutive day as she posted a time of 13.75 to finish fourth.

Eleni Kafourou, Junior, Athens, Greece - Finished fourth in the women’s triple jump as she posted a leap of 42-6.25 (12.96m). Kafourou then went on to take eighth in the women’s long jump with a measurement of 19-3.50 (5.88m). In addition to her impressive marks, she led the team in scoring with six points.

Jarrod Stevens, Senior, Adelaide, Australia - Posted a distance of 213-8 (65.14m) in the hammer toss to finish third.

Simon Wardhaugh, Junior, Bracken Ridge, Australia - Won the men’s hammer throw with a toss of 221-1 (67.40m). He achieved the mark on his final toss to win the event by 5-5 (1.66m) over his nearest competitor.

To be considered All-Region, the student-athlete must place in the top eight of his or her respective event and that student-athlete’s institution must be a current paid member of the USTFCCCA.

All seven competitors now prepare for the NCAA Championships, June 11-14, at Des Moines, Iowa. The top five individual finishers in each event In order to qualified for the championships.
