Broncos Qualify Three for NCAA Championship Final Rounds at Oregon

BOISE, Idaho - Three Boise State track and field team members have punched their tickets to the 2010 NCAA Championship Final Round held in Eugene, Ore. , June 9-12 at the historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Seniors Zacharias Arnos and Pontus Thomee will enter the meet as individual event competitors in the triple jump and javelin, respectively, while junior Kurt Felix will represent the Broncos, as well as, the Western Athletic Conference as the only competitor participating in the decathlon.

Arnos holds a No. 8 seed out of the 24 triple jump competitors, based on his jump of 53 feet, 1.50 inches from the NCAA West Championship Preliminary Round. Earlier this season he recorded a season and career-best of 53 feet, 9.75 inches, which is good for the third-best mark on the Boise State all-time top-three outdoor list. Arnos will kick-off the Broncos' appearances at the national championships with his 5 p.m. (MT) start time on Wed., June 9 in the triple jump.

Thomee enters the meet with a No. 2 seed after throwing a season-best mark of 236 feet, 5 inches to win the NCAA West Championship Preliminary Round last Thursday (May 27). Thomee holds a career-best of 239 feet, 3 inches and will look to chase that mark down at the national championships. Thomee is slated to compete on Thurs., June 10 at 6:15 p.m. (MT) in a trials and finals style competition.

Felix enters the meet as the sole decathlete out of the WAC, entering as the No. 16-ranked competitor. Felix set a career-best of 7,412-points at the WAC Championships in the decathlon and moved into second on the Boise State all-time top three chart in the event. Felix will begin his two-day, ten-event competition on Thurs., June 10 at 11 a.m. (MT) with the 100-meter dash. He will kick-off day two with the 110-meter hurdles, slated for an 11 a.m. (MT) start time on Fri., June 11.

The meet is scheduled through Sat., June 12, but no Broncos compete on that date. Results will be posted once available.
