Arnos Earns Spot at NCAA Championship Final Round in Triple Jump

AUSTIN, Texas - Senior Zacharias Arnos added his name to the list of the national championship qualifiers on Saturday (May 29) at the 2010 NCAA Division I Track and Field West Championship Preliminary Round meet held at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.

Arnos, a Nicosia, Cyprus native, placed fifth in the men's triple jump to earn a qualifying spot in the event and become the third Bronco to punch their ticket to the 2010 NCAA Championship Final Round in Eugene, Ore., June 9-12. Arnos recorded a solid mark of 53 feet, 1.50 inches to place fifth out of the 48 competitors on Saturday.

Also competing on Saturday was senior Eleni Kafourou, placing 14th in the women's triple jump. The Athens, Greece native jumped 42 feet, 1.50 inches in the event, missing qualification to the national meet by two places.

Kafourou also competed in the long jump on Friday (May 28) evening, but results were not available until Saturday. Her mark of 19 feet, 8 inches placed her in 21st, not advancing her to the national meet.

Arnos will join senior Pontus Thomee, who won the men's javelin on Friday (May 27) and junior Kurt Felix, who ranks No. 17 in the decathlon, at the NCAA Championship Final Round at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon, June 9-12.
