BRONCOS EARN TWO TOP-FIVE FINISHES ON FRIDAY AT WEST REGIONAL MEET

EUGENE, Oregon - The Boise State track and field team earned two automatic bids to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Friday, with top-five finishes in two events at the NCAA West Regional Meet at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore.

Pontus Thomee earned Boise State’s first automatic berth of the weekend by placing second in the men’s javelin. His mark of 239-03 (72.93m) is also his best throw of the season. Thomee won the Western Athletic Conference javelin title two weeks ago with a throw of 230-09 (70.34m).

Thomee was joined by senior Ryan Grinnell, who earned a fourth-place finish in the men’s high jump. Grinnell cleared 6-11.75 (2.13m) to earn the automatic bid. He also competed in the men’s long jump on Friday, in which he placed 10th with a leap of 24-01.75 (7.36m). He could still qualify for the NCAA Championship meet in the long jump as an at large bid. Grinnell will compete in the long jump on Saturday. He won the WAC outdoor championship in all three events this season.

The West Regional meet will conclude on Saturday, as Boise State still has four events left to compete in. For complete results from Friday’s action, and live results on Saturday, visit http://www.goducks.com/fls/500/track/0809/regional/index.htm?&SPSID=4364&SPID=243&DB_OEM_ID=500.
