Bronco Men in 11th After Day One at NCAA Regional Championships

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Three members of the Boise State University track and field team scored points and another broke a school-record, Friday, May 30, at the NCAA West Regional Championships.


Savvas Diakonikolas collected six points for the Broncos as he placed third in the long jump with a leap of 25-2 (7.67m).


Ryan Grinnell finished seventh in the long jump with a mark of 24-5.75 (7.46m) to earn an addition two team points for Boise State.


With the eight points collected in the long jump, the Boise State men’s track and field team is in 11th place with five events scored through day one of the regional championships.


Eleni Kafourou collected a point for the women’s track and field team in the long jump as she took eighth place with a mark of 19-3.50 (5.88m).


Megan Olivetti bested her own school-record with a 13.78 in the women’s 100m hurdles to placed fourth in the preliminaries to qualify for the finals.


Pontus Thomee finished ninth in the javelin toss with a career-best mark of 215-08 (65.74m).


Nick Cunningham finished 10th in the men’s 200m dash a time of 21.54.


Kayleen McDowell finished the 800m run in the time of 2:11.26 to place 14th.


Zacharias Arnos also participated in the men’s long jump and leaped 23-0.75 (7.03m) to place 15th.


The NCAA West Regional Track and Field Championships at Northridge, Calif., will continue Saturday, May 31, beginning with the men’s hammer throw at 10:00 a.m.
