Sexton Places 21st at NCAA West Preliminary Round

EUGENE, Ore. - Boise State's Chase Sexton was the final Bronco to compete at the 2011 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday (May 28). Sexton placed 21st in the men's discus competition in his first trip to the preliminary round meet.

Throwing three throws in the discus preliminaries, Sexton had his best mark of 172-3 (52.50m) on his third throw. The junior from Salem, Ore., was unable to advance to the finals of the event, placing 21st out of the 48 competitors.

Eight total Broncos traveled to the campus of the University of Oregon to compete in the preliminary round in hopes of advancing to the NCAA National Championship meet at Drake University (Des Moines, Iowa), June 8-11.

Long jumper Eetu Viitala and hammer thrower Alex Nelson earned qualifying spots for the national meet after placing in the top-12 of their events on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
