Broncos Compete Well in Day Two of NCAA Preliminary Round

AUSTIN, Texas - On day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Championships Preliminary Round, nine Boise State participated in the day's events at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium. Eight of the nine Broncos' marks were available as of late Friday night (May 28), with none of the eight qualifying beyond their Friday rounds.

Senior Eleni Kafourou competed in the long jump Friday evening but no results were available at 11:30 p.m. (MT). Her results will be updated as soon as results are posted.

Three Bronco women raced in the preliminary round of the 100-meter hurdles with freshman Marjani Maldonado racing to the fastest time of 13.84-seconds. Maldonado placed 29th out of the 48 preliminary competitors, just missing the top-24 cut to the quarterfinal round. Senior Megan Olivetti closed out her career as a Bronco, placing 34th in the race with a time of 13.99-seconds, while freshman Monisha Davis ran a time of 14.14-seconds to placed 39th.

In the long hurdles, freshman Rolando Trammel competed in the quarterfinal round of the 400-meter hurdles after placing 23rd in Thursday's preliminary round. Trammel clocked a time of 56.32-seconds in the one-lap race, placing 24th.

Also racing in a quarterfinal round, junior Sawyer Bosch rank a career-best time of 8 minutes, 57.19 seconds in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Bosch's time was good for 15th-place, just short of the 12 qualifiers for the NCAA final rounds held in Eugene, Ore.

In the men's hammer throw, Broncos Alex Nelson and Trevor Kraychir placed 21st and 26th, respectively. Nelson launched a throw of 194 feet, while Nelson recorded a mark of 188 feet, 11 inches, neither advancing to the NCAA final round in the event.

Kurt Felix competed in his second event of the meet, clearing 6 feet, 9 inches in the high jump to tie for 20th-place in the event. Although Felix did not qualify in the high jump, or the javelin in which he competed in yesterday, he will still travel to Eugene, Ore., to participate in the decathlon.

The 2010 NCAA West Championship Preliminary Round will conclude on Saturday (May 29) with only two Broncos competing. Kafourou will attempt to qualify in the triple jump, with a 1 p.m. (MT) scheduled start at the Mike A. Myers Stadium. Fellow senior Zacharias Arnos will also compete in the triple jump, an event he holds the No. 2 ranking in, at 5 p.m. (MT).
