Six Broncos Compete in NCAA First Round Day Two

AUSTIN, Texas - Six Boise State track and field athletes competed Friday (May 25) in day two of the 2012 NCAA Track and Field West Preliminary Round at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium. It was an exciting day for the seven Broncos, who gave solid efforts in four events.

One of the Broncos' top finishes was saved for late in the day with Sawyer Bosch placing 13 th in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Bosch placed fourth in the fast heat in a time of 8:53.21, but was tripped up over the final water barrier finishing just one place short of the top-12 spots that advance to the 2012 NCAA National Championship meet.

Teammate Allan Schroeder also raced in the same heat of the steeplechase, clocking a time of 9:20.79. He placed 13 th in the heat and 35th overall.

Rolando Trammel also gave the Broncos a bit of a thrill in the 110-meter hurdles, sneaking into the final qualifying spot (27 th) for Saturday's quarterfinal round. Trammel clocked a time of 14.15-seconds to place sixth in his heat in the short hurdles. He went on to race in the 400-meter hurdles' semifinals Friday evening, clocking a time of 52.78-seconds to place 23rd, 11 spots short of the top-12 national qualifying spots.

Justin Malnes also raced in the 110-meter hurdles prelims on Friday, suffering a fall during the race to place 48 th. Although he fell, he recovered to finish his final race of the season.

In the hammer throw two Broncos competed well with Trevor Kraychir leading the way. Kraychir notched a toss of 193'-6" to place second in his flight, going on to place 19th overall. Will Lohman threw 179'-3" to place 14th in his flight and 44th overall. Neither Bronco was able to make the top-12 spots that qualify to the national meet.
