Thirteen Head to NCAA Track and Field Preliminary Round

BOISE, Idaho - Thirteen Boise State track and field team members put in final preparations this week and head to Austin, Texas for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round meet, May 27-29. After final declarations were made last week the Broncos, who originally thought only 12 athletes had qualified, learned that freshman Monisha Davis also made the cut to the NCAA Preliminary Round adding a 13th Bronco to the list of competitors.

Davis was originally ranked just outside of the top-48 athletes on the west's 100-meter hurdles list, but was bumped to No. 46 with her career-best time of 13.87-seconds after a handful of athletes ranked ahead of her opted out of competing in the event at the NCAA Preliminary Round.

Davis joins four other women and eight men who represent Boise State and travel to the campus of the University of Texas to compete at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.

After final declarations by all universities, the final rankings heading into the weekend have been set. Eleni Kafourou enters the women's triple jump ranked No. 5 in the west, while also ranking No. 8 in the long jump. Marjani Maldonado joins Davis in the 100-meter hurdles, holding a No. 28 rank in the west, while Megan Olivetti sits at No. 34 in the event. Sasa Kampic rounds out the Bronco women with her No. 26 rank in the javelin.

On the men's side Zacharias Arnos holds the highest west ranking for the Broncos, sitting at No. 2 in the triple jump. He also ranks No. 11 in the long jump while teammate Eetu Viitala ranks No. 24 in the long jump. Trevor Kraychir holds a No. 14 spot in the hammer throw, while Alex Nelson ranks No. 26 in the same event. Pontus Thomee ranks No. 16 in the javelin with Kurt Felix joining him in the event with his No. 22 rank. Felix will also compete in the high jump, ranking No. 22 heading into the weekend. Sawyer Bosch ranks No. 27 in the 3000-meter steeplechase, while Rolando Trammel rounds out the group with his No. 38 ranking in the 400-meter hurdles.

The University of Texas will host the NCAA Championship West Preliminary Round while North Carolina State will host the east round. The top-12 competitors from each of the events the Broncos are competing in will advance to the NCAA Championship Final Round hosted by the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore., June 9-12.

In addition, Boise State's Kurt Felix has already punched his ticket to the NCAA Final Round in the men's decathlon, holding a No. 16 rank in the event. The decathlon is an event where no preliminary round of qualification is held.
