Morton Named to All-WAC First Team in Heptathlon

HONOLULU, Hawai'i - Boise State's Alexi Morton earned a third-place finish in her first-career Western Athletic Conference heptathlon competition Wednesday afternoon at the Clarence T.C. Ching Track Complex.

Morton scored a lifetime-best of 4,961-points, earning an All-WAC First Team honor along the way.

The freshman out of Auburn, Wash., put together another solid day of competition, starting off the day by winning long jump. Morton jumped a distance of 18-9.25 to win the first event of Wednesday's competition and launch her to the overall lead.

Morton went on to throw a mark of 89-8 in the javelin, placing 10th in the event and heading into the seventh and final event in third-place.

Giving a solid effort in the heat and humidity, Morton closed out her 2011 WAC multi-event competition with a time of 2:33.08 in the 800-meters, good for sixth-place in the event.

Morton will join her teammates on Thursday, competing in individual events on day three of the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Thursday's events begin at 2:00 p.m. with the women's hammer, while field events begin at 4:00 p.m. with the women's steeplechase.
