WARDHAUGH WINS WAC FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AWARD

BOISE, Idaho On Monday the Western Athletic Conference announced the Track and Field Athletes of the Week, for April 27-May 3, and Boise State’s Simon Wardhaugh has brought home his first conference award of the outdoor season. Wardhaugh was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Bronco Twilight, Friday (May 1), in Bronco Stadium.

Wardhaugh, a senior from Bracken Ridge, Australia (University of Queensland), won the hammer throw at the Bronco Twilight with a toss of 223-11 (68.24m). The mark is his top throw so far this season. It currently ranks fourth nationally and is the top throw in the WAC by more than 12 feet. With the mark, Wardhaugh qualifies to compete at the NCAA West Regional meet. He has qualified for the regional meet four times.

Wardhaugh and the rest of the Broncos do not compete this week as they are in preparation for the WAC Championships, which will be held May 13-16 in Logan, Utah.
