Felix, Vaisima Named MW Athletes of the Week

BOISE, Idaho -- Boise State seniors Kurt Felix and Mele Vaisima have been selected as the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Felix shares his title with TCU junior Charles Silmon.

Felix, a native of St. Davids, Grenada, earned first-place honors in the men's decathlon last week at the Mt. SAC Multi-Events in Azusa, Calif., accumulating a program record, Grenada national record and Olympic "B" Standard 7,972 points. Felix placed first in the long jump (25'-4.50") and javelin throw (218'-7.00"), while notching career-best marks in the 400-meter race (48.82) and the 1,500-meter run (4:35.61). His decathlon mark ranks first in the Mountain West and fourth in the NCAA during the 2012 outdoor season.

Vaisima, from Salt Lake City, Utah, posted a personal-best mark in the women's hammer throw last weekend at the Oregon Relays in Eugene, Ore., notching a mark of 201'-6" to claim second-place honors in the event. Vaisima's throw ranks second in program history, second in the Mountain West and 15th in the NCAA during the 2012 outdoor season. Vaisima is only the second Bronco woman to surpass the 200-foot mark in the hammer throw. Vaisima also placed fourth in the women's discus throw with a mark of 150'-3".

Silmon, hailing from Waco, Texas, notched individual titles in the men's 100-meter and 200-meter races, respectively, last weekend at the Michael Johnson Dr. Pepper Classic in Waco, Texas.
