Broncos Divide East and West for Weekend Meets

► What's Happening - The Boise State track and field team splits to the east and west this coming weekend, competing in the Oregon Relays, Northwest Nazarene Invitational and the Idaho State Springfest Shootout on April 22 and 23. A handful of Broncos will head west to Oregon's Hayward Field, as well as to NNU's track in Nampa, Idaho, while the majority of the Broncos will head east to Idaho State's Davis Field in Pocatello.

► Meet Specifics -
The Oregon Relays will be held at Oregon's historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23. It is a combination of the Northwest's premier collegiate, professional and high school athletes. Friday's events are slated to begin around 3 p.m. (Pacific) and will end around 7:50 p.m. (PT). Saturday's collegiate events begin at 11 a.m. with the women's hammer and end at 1:50 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relay.

Oregon Relays Meet Information

► Traveling Broncos -
Boise State is sending a handful of qualifying Broncos (the meet had entry standards) to Hayward Field this weekend. For the women, Rici Morill will race in the 800-meters, Kate Jette and Shea Hanson will run the 3000-meter steeplechase, Alyssa Osai will throw discus and hammer, while Nadine Russell will join in the hammer, and Sasa Kampic will participate in the javelin. For the men, Jeff Howard, Brian Pierre and Sawyer Bosch will race in the 5000-meters, while Bosch will join Kevin Higgs and Allan Schroeder in the 3000-meter steeplechase as well. Justin Malnes will run the 110-meter hurdles, while Anthony Belcher will compete in the 400-meter hurdles. Malnes will join Josh Butler, Manoah Wesson and Rolando Trammel in the 4x100-meter relay, while Butler, Trammel, Wesson and Paul Robertson will team to run the 4x400-meter relay. Chase Sexton will compete in the shot put and discus, while Alex Nelson and Trevor Kraychir are entered in the hammer. Pontus Thomee and Alex Cartwright will also join the throwers, competing in the javelin.

► Ranked Broncos - Out of those heading to the Oregon Relays, nine of them hold top-100 rankings in the national standings this week. Chase Sexton ranks in both the shot put (#91) and the discus (#99), while Rolando Trammel ranks in the 110-meter hurdles (#85) and 400-meter hurdles (#71), although he is only running relays this weekend. Also ranking in the throws is Alex Nelson (#16) and Trevor Kraychir (#28) in the hammer and Pontus Thomee (#79) and Alex Cartwright (#89) in the javelin. Sawyer Bosch holds the highest ranking, sitting at No. 9 in the nation in the steeplechase. Kevin Higgs joins him on the list with a No. 70 rank. For the women's steeplechase, Kate Jette ranks No. 79 in the nation this week.

In WAC rankings, Bosch leads the conference in the steeplechase, while Higgs sits in third in the event. For the women, Jette sits in second in the WAC steeplechase rankings. Pierre sits in the No. 3 spot in the 5000-meter rankings, while Malnes also ranks third in the 110-meter hurdles. Belcher sits at No. 2 in the 400-meter hurdles, while he joins the third-ranked 4x400-meter relay team in the WAC. Sexont holds the No. 2 spot in the conference in the discus, while Nelson and Kraychir sit No. 1 and No. 2 in the hammer. Thomee and Cartwright mirror in the javelin sitting No. 1 and No. 2 currently.

► Meet Specifics -
Boise State will also send a handful of distance runners to the Northwest Nazarene Invitational held in Nampa, Idaho, on Saturday, April 23. The meet includes teams from the Northwest and Treasure Valley, including NNU, Boise State, Lewis-Clark State, Eastern Oregon, College of Idaho and Montana State-Billings. The meet is slated for a 10 a.m. (Mountain) start with running events, while field events begin at 10:30 a.m.

NNU Invitational Meet Information & Schedule

► Traveling Broncos - Alexandria Bell, Audie Balue and Chrystal Moore will race in the 800-meters for the women. Kacie Bitzenburg and Danielle Zehrung will take on the 1500-meter race, while Melody Braden will race in the 3000-meter steeplechase. For the men, only Geoff Moore has been entered, racing in the 800-meters.  

► Meet Specifics -
The Idaho State Springfest Shootout is a meet held in Pocatello, Idaho, that includes collegiate and junior collegiate teams from the Northwest. Teams scheduled to participate include Boise State, Idaho State, Eastern Washington, Montana, Montana State, Northern Arizona, Portland State, Weber State, Utah Valley, Carroll College and Rocky Mountain. The meet is slated to begin with field events at 11 a.m. (Mountain), while running events will begin at 1 p.m.

ISU Springfest Meet Information & Schedule

► Traveling Broncos - A large portion of the Bronco squad will head east to compete in the Springfest Shootout. Those competing mostly include sprinters and jumpers, although a handful of distance athletes and throwers will also be competing at the meet.  

► Ranked Broncos - Mathew Moyer is the only top-100 nationally ranked Bronco heading to the Springfest meet. He ranks No. 94 in the country in the 800-meters, while also sitting in the No. 2 spot in WAC rankings this week. None of the Bronco women traveling to Pocatello hold a top-100 national ranking, although Heidi Dorling and Danielle Valentine hold the No. 2 and No. 3 spots on the WAC list.
