Broncos Scatter For Busy Weekend of Meets

► WHAT'S HAPPENING - The Boise State track and field teams will split to six different meets this weekend in Southern California, Eugene, Ore., and Nampa, Idaho. In California, the Broncos will compete at the California Invitational/Mt. SAC Multi-Events (April 18-19), the Mt. SAC Relays (April 19-21), the Cal State LA Twilight Open (April 19) and the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational (April 20). They will also send athletes to the Oregon Relays (April 20-21) and the Northwest Nazarene University Invitational (April 21).  

► CALIFORNIA INVITATIONAL/MT. SAC MULTI-EVENT MEET SPECIFICS - Boise State multi-eventers, Kurt Felix and Alexi Morton, will head to Azusa, Calif., to participate in the California Invitational/Mt. SAC Multi-Events on April 18-19. The meet will be held at the Azusa Pacific University Stadium and will consist of only heptathlon and decathlon competitions.

Felix will compete in the Mt. SAC Section of the men's decathlon, slated for a 2 p.m. (MT) start on Wednesday and a 1:30 p.m. (MT) start on Thursday. Morton will compete in the California Invitational Section of the women's heptathlon, starting at 10:30 a.m. (MT) on Wednesday and 11 a.m. (MT) on Thursday.

► MT. SAC RELAYS MEET SPECIFICS - The 54th Annual Mt. SAC Relays will take place April 19-21 at the Historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.

The Broncos will have a handful of student-athletes representing Boise State in the meet.

Thursday's schedule runs from 3 p.m. (MT) to 11 p.m., while Friday runs from 11 a.m. (MT) to 12:35 a.m. (MT) and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. (MT) to 10:10 p.m.

Tickets range from $5-12 on each of the days, or a all-day pass can be purchased for $20.

► CAL STATE L.A. TWILIGHT OPEN MEET SPECIFICS - The Cal State L.A. Twilight Open will be held Thursday, April 19 at the Jesse Owens Track on the CSULA campus.

The meet will begin with the hammer throw at 10 a.m. (MT) and will run field events through 7:00 p.m. (MT). Running events begin at 4:30 p.m. (MT) with the steeplechase and end at 10:25 p.m. (MT) with the men's and women's 10000-meters.

The Broncos will be represented by Charlie Petrie in the 5000-meters (slated for 9:25 p.m.) and Tessa Murray in the 1500-meters (scheduled at 6:35 p.m.).

► AZUSA PACIFIC BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL MEET SPECIFICS - A handful of Broncos will represent Boise State at the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday, April 20 at the Azusa Pacific University Stadium in Azusa, Calif.

The meet begins at 10 a.m. (MT) with the men's steeplechase and runs through 6:45 p.m. (MT) with the women's 5000-meters.

► OREGON RELAYS MEET SPECIFICS - The Boise State throws corps will be traveling to Eugene, Ore., this weekend to participate in the Oregon Relays, April 20-21 at the historic Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.  

The meet begins with the women's discus at 4:00 p.m. (MT) on Friday, April 20, with the collegiate sections ending at 8:50 p.m. (MT) with the 5000-meters. On Saturday, April 21 the collegiate events begin at 12 noon with the women's hammer and run through 2:50 p.m. (MT) with the 4x400-meter relay.

The Broncos will be represented by 10 throwers, including: Sasa Kampic (javelin), Alyssa Osai (discus, hammer), Nadine Russell (hammer), Kristen Sowers (javelin), Kady Stafford (hammer), Mele Vaisima (shot put, discus, hammer), Austin Hamilton (javelin), Trevor Kraychir (hammer), Will Lohman (shot put, discus, hammer) and Chase Sexton (shot put, discus).

► NNU INVITATIONAL MEET SPECIFICS - Those Broncos who are not traveling to Southern California or Oregon will compete closer to home this weekend, heading to Nampa, Idaho, to participate in the Northwest Nazarene University Invitational at the NNU Track and Field Complex, Saturday, April 21.

The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. with a slew of field events, while running starts at 9:30 a.m. (MT) with the 10000-meters. The 4x400-meter relay is the final scheduled event at 3:25 p.m. (MT). The men's and women's javelin will be contested Friday evening beginning at 5 p.m. (MT).

► USTFCCCA RANKINGS - The Bronco men moved up one spot this week in the USTFCCCA Team rankings, to No. 38. Kurt Felix ranks fourth in the decathlon, 15th in the long jump and 34th in the javelin, while Chase Sexton holds the only other USTFCCCA current season ranking of 45th in the discus.

The women moved to 121st this week, up 24 spots from last week. Mele Vaisima hold the 21st spot in the hammer, while Alyssa Osai sits at 40th in the hammer for the only two currently ranked Bronco women.

► TFRRS RANKINGS - The BIn the TFRRS rankings, 10 Broncos and one relay hold top-100 spots. Kurt Felix leads with a No. 3 rank in the decathlon, No. 8 in the long jump and No. 19 in the javelin. Rolando Trammel ranks No. 85 in the 110-meter hurdles and No. 34 in the 400-meter hurdles. WIll Lohman ranks No. 71 in the shot put and No. 83 in the hammer, while Chase Sexton sits at No. 74 in the shot put and No. 31 in the discus. Trevor Kraychir ranks No. 86 in the hammer, while Dusty Klein is No. 89 in the 800-meters, rounding out the ranked men. For the women, the 4x100-meter relay ranks No. 91, while Mele Vaisima holds the top ranking at No. 16 in the hammer. Alyssa Osai also ranks in the hammer at No. 33. Alexi Morton sits at No. 61 in the heptathlon and Racquel Jones at No. 96 in the long jump, rounding out the women.

► TFRRS CONFERENCE LEADERS - The Broncos have a solid group of student-athletes who hold top-three spots on this week's TFRRS Mountain West Conference performance list. Kurt Felix leads with three top-three spots at No. 1 in the decathlon and javelin and No. 2 in the long jump. Will Lohman holds two top-three spots at No. 2 in the hammer and No. 2 in the shot put. Chase Sexton also holds two rankings, sitting at No. 3 in the discus and No. 3 in the shot put. Others holding conference leading spots include: Manoah Wesson (400m) and Rolando Trammel (400m hurdles). Broncos holding No. 2 spots include: Emma Bates (1500m), Drew O'donoghue-McDonald (1500m), Rolando Trammel (110 hurdles),  Mele Vaisima (hammer), Alexi Morton (heptathlon) and the men's 4x100-meter relay. Broncos holding No. 3 spots in their events include: Dusty Klein (800m), Allan Schroeder (steeplechase), Alyssa Osai (hammer) and Trevor Kraychir (hammer) and the women's 4x100-meter relay and men's 4x400-meter relay.
