Broncos Compete at Mark Faldmo, Beach Invites

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State's track team competed at the Mark Faldmo Invitational and the Beach Invitational on Saturday, April 16. The Broncos tallied 15 top-three finishes at the Mark Faldmo Invite hosted by Utah State in Logan, Utah, while only five Broncos competed at Long Beach State's Beach Invitational in Norwalk, Calif.

MARK FALDMO INVITE
Rolando Trammel earned a win for the Bronco men, clocking a time of 14.48-seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. Justin Malnes snagged the second-place spot in the same race, earning a near-best of 14.58-seconds.

Racquel Jones also collected a pair of wins, earning the 100-meter dash title in a time of 12.36-seconds. She also teamed with Destiny Gammage, Cyntrail Pierce and Mackenzie Flannigan to win the 4x100-meter relay in a season-best time of 47.15-seconds. Jones also earned a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash, running a 24.23-second time.

Rici Morill was the only other Bronco woman in the top-three finishers, placing third in the 800-meters in a time of 2:16.46. She teamed with Emily Field, Andrea Wilson and Paige Orcutt to run a time of 4:07.26, placing third in the 4x400-meter relay.

In the men's sprints, Manoah Wesson earned second-place finishes in the 200-meters (21.66) and 400-meters (48.09) earning career-best times in both races. Karrie Butler finished just behind Wesson in the 400-meters, clocking a career-best of 48.18-seconds.

Mathew Moyer also earned a career-best mark on the day, clocking a time of 1:51.67 in the 800-meters, placing third. The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Nick Tatro, Ethan Slight, Tyler Rackleff and Michael Walrath earned a win, breaking the tape in a time of 3:17.79.

In the throws, Alex Nelson led the way, placing second in the hammer with a mark of 206-4, while Trevor Kraychir earned a third-place finish with a mark of 202-7 for a season-best effort. Chase Sexton also put forth a season-best effort in the shot put, throwing 54-4.0 to place third in the event.

BEACH INVITE
Josh Butler was the top finisher for the Broncos at the Beach Invitational, jumping to a sixth-place finish in the triple jump. Butler covered a distance of 48-1.25, competing as the only male for the Broncos on Saturday at the Beach Invite.

For the women, Danielle Valentine and Heidi Dorling tied for a ninth-place finish in the pole vault, each clearing 11-9.25. Tajanee Simmons raced in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 15.33-seconds and earning a 37th-place finish, while Emily Funkhouser raced to a 49th-place finish in the 800-meters. Funkhouser covered the two-lap race in 2:18.74.

UPDATE
Three Broncos competed late on Friday evening at the Mt. SAC Relays in the 5000-meter distance. Brian Pierre was the top Bronco, placing fifth in the university/open 'c' division with a time of 14:16.50. Jeff Howard competed in the same race as Pierre, picking up a 30th-place finish with a time of 14:41.54. Freshman Drew O'donoghue-McDonald raced in the university/open 'd' division 5000-meter run, placing 31st in a time of 15:18.69.

The Broncos continue their season on the road next weekend, traveling across the state to compete in Idaho State's Springfest Collegiate Shoot Out on Saturday, April 23. Boise State will then return home on April 29-30 when they host the Idaho-Utah Border Clash.
