Felix, Bosch Compete Well at California Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays Events

WALNUT, Calif. - The Boise State track and field team kicked off a long weekend of competition on Thursday (April 15) completing the California Invitational/Mt. SAC Relays Multi Event competition at Azusa Pacific University as well as finishing day one of the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.

Boise State's Kurt Felix participated in the "California" section of the men's decathlon, scoring a total of 7,220 points to win his division by 26 points. Felix's best effort in the event as a Bronco was just 39 points short of the all-time top-three performances at Boise State in the decathlon.

"We had a few events we would've liked to have back, but all in all it was a solid start (to the season) and we will come out ready for the next one," said Boise State multi event coach Jeff Petersmeyer.

Felix began the competition out with a season-best time of 11.39-seconds in the 100-meter dash, placing third in the event out of 16 competitors in the decathlon. Moving on to the long jump, Felix recorded a jump of 22 feet, 10.50 inches to finish second overall in the event. His season-best of 41 feet, 1.50 inches in the shot put earned him fourth-place in the event, while he cleared an outdoor-best of 6 feet, 9.75 inches in the high jump to win the fourth event of the day. In the final event of Wednesday's competition, Felix clocked a time of 50.51 seconds in the 400-meter dash, placing third in the event.

In day two of the multi events on Thursday, Felix started his day off with a time of 15.48 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, placing fourth in the event. Competing in the discus for the first time this season, Felix placed ninth in the event with a toss of 112 feet, 6 inches. In the pole vault, Felix cleared 12 feet, 5.50 inches to place 10th overall, then followed his lowest placing of the competition with a win in the javelin with a throw of 205 feet, 6 inches, winning by over 30 feet. In the final event of the competition, Felix clocked a time of 4 minutes, 45.24 seconds in the 1500-meter run, placing second in the event and securing his overall first-place finish in the decathlon.

In the Mt. SAC Relays individual events held at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif., Sawyer Bosch represented Boise State well, placing eighth in the men's Olympic development university/open division of the 3000-meter steeplechase. Bosch just slightly improved his personal-best time to 8 minutes, 58.76 seconds, narrowing in on the Boise State all-time top-three marks in the event.

"With Sawyers last steeple just five days prior I am very happy to see him run another great time," said distance coach Brad Wick. "It was a different type of race than the SunAngel meet with the field being much stronger tonight. He did a nice job pacing himself and moving up throughout the race."

The Mt. SAC Relays continue Friday (April 16) and Saturday (April 17) in Walnut, Calif. The Broncos will also participate in the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday as well as the Beach Invite on Friday and Saturday in Cerritos, Calif.
