Broncos Travel to Mt. Sac and Azusa Pacific For Meets

The Meet The Boise State University track and field team will be split for competition during the weekend of Apr. 18-20. Members of the Broncos will be competing at the Azusa Pacific Invitational Apr. 18 and at the Mt. Sac Relays Apr. 20.


The track and field events at the one-day Azusa Pacific Invitational will both begin Friday, Apr. 18, at 9:00 a.m. The Mt. Sac Relays are a three-day event which will begin Friday, Apr. 18 and end Sunday, Apr. 20.


The Bronco Men - The Boise State men’s track and field team is ranked 39th in the country entering the third week of the outdoor season. The Bronco men have already had six members of the team enter NCAA West Regional qualifying standards.


Simon Wardhaugh is the nation’s fourth ranked hammer thrower with a toss of 224-2 (68.34m). He won the hammer at the Sun Angel Classic Apr. 11, and the Western Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week with that mark. Wardhaugh was a 2008 NCAA Indoor All-American in the 35-pound weight throw finishing in fifth place with a toss of 71-11.50 (21.93m).


Ryan Grinnell is fifth in the NCAA in the triple jump with a distance of 52-8.75 (16.07m). Grinnell earned All-American honors in the triple jump during the indoor season as he finished sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 52-10.25 (15.93m).


Jarrod Stevens earned his NCAA qualifying standard in the hammer throw at the Northwest Nazarene Invitational Mar. 15. His toss of 212-10 (64.88m) won the event and ranked him 15th in the nation.


Zacharias Arnos is ranked 31st in the triple jump with a leap of 50-6.25 (15.40m).


Nate Putnam dropped one place in the javelin toss to fall to 36th place in the nation with a distance of 212-1 (64.65m).


Nick Cunningham posted a regional qualifying time in the men’s 200m dash at the All Idaho Collegiate Cup as he won the event with a 21.24.


The Bronco Women - The Boise State University women’s track and field team have two members ranked nationally.


Eleni Kafourou is ranked 31st in the long jump with a leap of 19-11.50 (6.08m) which she achieved Apr. 12, at the Sun Angel Classic.


Kayleen McDowell earned her NCAA West Regional qualifying standard as she finished first in the 800m at the Sun Angel Classic with time of 2:09.61.
