BreAnna Craig Sets School Record in the Pole Vault at Mesa Classic

MESA, Ariz. - The Boise State track and field team sent a handful of athletes to the 2010 Mesa Classic track meet hosted by Mesa Community College on Friday (April 9). The Broncos had 12 women and five men represent Boise State at the meet.

Boise State was led by junior BreAnna Craig who set a new Boise State school record in the women's outdoor pole vault. Craig cleared a height of 12 feet, 7.50 inches to place second in the event and surpass the former school record held by fellow teammate Annelise Bertleson (2009) by a quarter-of-an-inch.  Fellow Bronco Heidi Dorling captured a third-place finish with her career-best outdoor mark of 12 feet, 3.50 inches.

The Bronco women fared very well in each of their respective events with freshman Racquel Jones winning the long jump with a new career-best jump of 19 feet. In the 100-meter hurdles senior Megan Olivetti earned a second-place finish with a season-best time of 14.03 seconds while Marjani Maldonado placed just behind in third with a time of 14.15 seconds. Monisha Davis clocked a time of 14.37 seconds to finish in fifth-place, while Tajanee Simmons ran a time of 15.24 seconds to place 19th.

In the women's sprints Joi Glass led the Broncos with her third-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Glass clocked a season-best time of 25.99 seconds. In the women's 400-meter dash freshmen Taryn Campos and Emily Funkhouser fared well, placing seventh and ninth, respectively. Campos ran a time of 1:00.00 while Funkhouser was close behind with a time of 1:00.82.

In the throwing events Mele Vaisima earned a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a season-best mark of 41 feet, 3.25 inches. Nadine Russell also recorded a season-best mark of 37 feet, 4.50 inches to place eleventh in the shot put.

On the men's side of the competition Daniel Thompson represented the Broncos well in the field events, tying for a fourth-place finish after clearing a season-best height of 15 feet, 3 inches.

On the track Rolando Trammel led the Broncos with his fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Trammel clocked a season-best time of 53.08 seconds in the event. In the 200-meter dash Eric Capelle captured a fifth-place finish with his season-best time of 22.31 seconds while Marlon Douglas clocked a season-best of 22.43 seconds to place sixth. Per Strandquist was the only Bronco to compete in the 100-meter dash, clocking a season-best of 11.47 seconds to place 16th overall.

The Broncos will take a short trip over to Tempe, Ariz.,  on Saturday (April 10) to compete in the 31st Annual Sun Angel Track Classic hosted by Arizona State University.
