April 5, 2016

Conference Release

David Elliott was named the Mountain West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for his performance this past weekend at the Stanford Invitational. Elliott ran a 13:42.17 in the 5,000m, good for the fastest time in school history.

The Puyallup, Wash., native now has six school records to his name between indoor and outdoor track and field;

Indoor Track and Field
Mile – 3:57.68
3,000m – 7:53.15
Distance Medley Relay – 9:48.34

Outdoor Track and Field
800m – 1:49.48
1,500m – 3:41.61
5,000m – 13:42.17

He took fifth in the 5,000m at the Stanford Invitational, finishing behind three professionals and one fellow collegian, Thomas Awad (13:41.77) of Penn. Elliott currently has the No. 2 5,000m in the country, sitting behind only Awad.

The accolade is the second-career outdoor weekly honor for Elliott, and the fifth of the season including his three from the indoor season. The senior’s time likely guarantees him a spot at the NCAA Regional Championships in the event.

The Broncos will be back in action this weekend in Tempe, Ariz., at the Sun Angel Classic from April 8-9.
