Howard Leads Broncos in Day One of Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. - The Boise State track and field team had 10 out of their 11 representatives compete in day one of the Stanford Invitational. From those 10, five Broncos managed to set new career-bests in their respective events.

Marisa Howard picked up a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter section four race when she clocked a 16:24.18. Howard beat her career-best time by more than 16 seconds to lead the Broncos to their best finish of the day. In the same race, Tessa Murray finished in seventh place with a time of 16:29.11.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase section one race, Zach Wiles crossed the line at 8:45.96 to earn fourth place, while teammate Allan Schroeder finished close behind at 8:47.56 to claim fifth place. Both times were new career-bests for Wiles and Schroeder.

David Elliott and Jeff Howard rounded out the slew of Broncos who set new career-bests Friday afternoon when they finished the 5,000-meter section three race in fourth (13:57.21) and 22nd (14:26.92) place, respectively. Aaron Back placed 19th in the 5,000-meter section four race, clocking 14:32.93, while Rhys Park finished 21st (14:38.40).

The Blue and Orange recorded their sixth top-10 finish on the track when Drew O’donoghue-McDonald placed 10th (3:51.89) in the 1500-meter section four race.

Senior Hayli Bozarth tossed a 45-8.50 (13.93m) for seventh place in the shot put and placed ninth in the hammer throw (176-7 / 53.83m).

Matt Post will compete in the hammer throw tomorrow at 2 p.m. (MT).
