State of Idaho Track and Field Championship on the Line This Weekend (Apr. 4-5)

The Meet - The Boise State University track and field will host the All Idaho Collegiate Cup, Apr. 4-5, on the Ed Jacoby Track at Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho.

 

This will be a scored meet to determine the winner among the six Idaho institutions of higher education. This meet will determine both the team and the individual champions within the state of Idaho. Awards will be distributed to each individual who wins an event and to the team with the most team points.

 

The meet will begin Friday, Apr. 4, with the field events at 2:00 p.m., followed by the field events beginning at 3:00 p.m. Competition in the field events for Saturday Apr. 5, will start with the women’s javelin throw at 10:00 a.m., and be followed by the field events beginning at 2:30 p.m., with the women’s 5,000m run.

 

The Teams - All four-year universities in Idaho will attend the meet. This includes host Boise State, Idaho State, Idaho, Northwest Nazarene, The College of Idaho and Lewis-Clark State.

 

The Bronco Men - The Boise State men’s track and field team is ranked 31st in the 2008 USTFCCCA Outdoor Pre-Season poll with 68.82 points.

 

Simon Wardhaugh is ranked fifth in the hammer throw with a preliminary toss of 219-5 (66.90m). Last season, he finished fourth at the NCAA West Regional with a throw of 213-8 (65.14m) before finishing 11th at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a toss of 208-2 (53.45m).

 

Jarrod Stevens is ranked seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 218-10 (66.71m). He earned an NCAA West Regional Qualifying Standard in the hammer toss at the Northwest Nazarene Invitational with a mark of 212-10 (64.88m). Stevens won the hammer throw at the 2007 Western Athletic Conference Championships with a distance of 218-10 (66.71m).

 

Pontus Thomee is the 22nd ranked javelin thrower in the country with a preliminary mark of 216-11 (66.14m). Thomee was a 2007 NCAA West Region Qualifier in the event with a toss of 217-0 (66.14m).

 

Nate Putnam is also ranked in the javelin at 28th place with a mark of 212-9 (64.85m). He is a three-time NCAA West Region Qualifier in the event. He posted a second place finish in the event at the 2005 West Region with a toss of 222-6 (67.82m).

 

Zacharias Arnos earned an NCAA West Region Qualifying Standard in the triple jump as he posted a 50-3.25 (15.32m) at the Trojan Invitational. He is currently ranked 23rd in the event with a jump of 51-4.50 (15.66m).

 

The Bronco Women - The Boise State women’s track and field team is ranked 56th, according to USTFCCCA, with a 34.83 points.

 

Eleni Kafourou is ranked in both the long jump and the triple jump. Kafourou is the 14th ranked triple jumper in the pre-season poll with a mark of 42-11.50 (13.10m). She finished fourth at the 2007 NCAA West Regional with a jump of 42-8.25 (13.01m). Kafourou is ranked 28th in the long jump with a mark of 20-4.25 (6.21m). She finished fifth at the NCAA West Regional in the event with a mark of 20-3.50 (6.18m).

 

The women’s 4x400m relay team of Nataucha Lowry, Nerisha Phillip, Megan Olivetti and Paige Olivetti is ranked 55th in the country with a time of 3:41.22.
